Inexpensive gift ideas for the homesteader

These gifts are for the budget shopper. Homesteaders will loves these and you’ll spend under $25 to see that smile on their face!

Ball complete book of home preserving

This was one of the first books my mom got me when I started mentioning canning and home preserving. I haven’t done much preserving yet, but have made some jam.

This book is one of my favorites and will be so helpful once I start preserving food. If you have a homesteader in your life, this is the perfect budget gift! The Ball Complete Book of Home Preserving is a must-have in any homesteaders’ home.

The Encyclopedia of Country Living

This book will provide everything a homesteader needs to know about basic skills and country wisdom. I’ve referred back to this book multiple times throughout my homesteading journey. Pretty much all the information you need is right here in one spot!

My mother-in-law bought it for my husband and me while we were working on closing on our first house and homestead. This book will be a homesteader dream book the moment they find it.

Thornproof gardening gloves

If you have citrus trees, or pesky little blackberry bushes that never produce but keep growing back (DARN THOSE BRAMBLES!), these gloves are the gloves for you…and me!

Not only will this gift not break the bank, but they’ll be a gift that keeps giving for years to come.

Norpro canning essentials boxed set

I have this set and I love it. My mother in law recently borrowed it to render some lard from the hog we butchered.

It comes with everything you need to start canning, with the exception of the mason jars of course. The best thing about this set, other than having all the tools you need, is it is under $25!

You can use this kit in a regular stockpot or a pressure cooker for all kinds of canning!

Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Hand Soap

I use Mrs. Meyers soap in my home and love it! This soap is so wonderful for so many reasons. It contains plant-derived cleaning ingredients, is biodegradable, and cruelty-free!

With the number of times I wash my hands during the day, it’s the only soap I really want to use. Since I use it often, I like to buy hand soap refills and just refill my containers to reduce waste in my home.

Egg carton stamp

These reusable carton stamps are so cute! If I ever were to expand my egg operation I would definitely get one of these. Not only are they a crafty addition to your cartons, but you’re also supporting a small business on Etsy.

You can customize this stamp, use different colored inks, and use it over and over again. Better yet, you can pair the stamp with some biodegradable egg cartons and make it a package gift!

Seeds

You can never go wrong with seeds. I buy all my seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds and I swear by them! I’m not an affiliate or a rep, just a lover of the company.

They’re honest and their seeds are some of the best quality.

Earbuds

Every homesteader and hobby farmer needs a good set of earbuds.

I listen to music or audiobooks while doing farmwork. Pruning grapes is one of my least favorite activities and having something to listen to helps the time pass by.

I’m convinced you can’t have too many pairs of earbuds! They’re small and fit in the smallest of places. What’s even better is they’re multi-use! PERFECTO.

I use Simply Earth in my home and love it. Not only are these oils great, affordable gifts for the homesteader in your life but they’re also a great zero waste stocking stuffer item!

Simply Earth is a small, family-owned company producing 100% pure, honest, affordable essential oils for your home! I started using them a few years ago and have loved my experience completely.

Farm mugs

Here’s a gift for the farmer that goat’s a sense of humor. How about these mugs as gifts for homesteaders and country folk?

For a long while, I would get my family cool mugs for all the holidays. Eventually, it became apparent that they all had way too many mugs and I had to change my course.

Never-the-less, you could gift a mug every 3-5 years and get away with it. Plus, they’re perfect for a small budget!

Gifts for the slightly larger budget

These gifts are more than $25 but are still perfect gifts for the farmer, gardener and homesteader in your life. Big ticket items are great for the intentional who like to live with fewer, more special items.

The fanny pack

I use a fanny pack almost every day on the homestead! I put my cell phone in it, screws, shove gloves in the side, etc.

Although you can find fanny packs under $25, the super cute ones are handmade and more suitable for the farmer like this goat fanny pack and this one with barn animals on it! There’s one for everyone, just make sure there’s enough room in it for the basics.

Women’s waterproof rain sloggers

Okay, check out these chicken sloggers and tell me they aren’t the cutest! If your homesteading friends have chickens, they need these. Heck, I need these!

The reviews on the sloggers are so great I’m probably going to add them to my holiday list. I’ll leave this picture right here and move right along.

The Homestead Subscription Box

I recently discovered this box and think it’s so cool! These gift boxes are personalized for all types of homesteaders. Find the perfect subscription for the seed starter, cheesemaker and hunter/gatherer alike.

Electric Food Dehydrator

My mom has had an Excalibur food dehydrator for years she doesn’t use that I’ve had my eye on! These models aren’t the cheapest but have great reviews, last for years and are made in the USA.

The Presto Dehydro Electric Food Dehydrator also has great reviews and, after some chatting in the homesteading Facebook groups, folks seem to love this model. Priced at a more affordable number, it’s a great option for the homesteader just getting start with food preserving.

A middle-ground dehydrator as the price is concerned, the Snackmaster Pro Food Dehydrator is compact but powerful. This product is almost completely made in the USA!

Backyard Garden Harvest Basket

Every homesteader needs a quality harvest basket or harvest apron on their homestead. One is more useful than the other depending on the crop you’re harvesting.

I prefer to put hardier crops in my apron and more sensitive crops in a basket. Salad greens and beans can get crushed under each other! If my harvest is abundant, I’ll use a basket no matter what.

I love this style basket because you can also rinse your produce after harvesting – all in one!
